| CT-03C CT3c – Card/Coin Hybrid Phones The CT3c was developed as a modernised successor to the CT3, incorporating card payment capability alongside coins. It retained the durable metal case of the earlier green models but featured: -A grey/silver finish (blue variants were used at NSW railway stations) -An orange backlit LCD display -An updated door design with a distinctive bulge for the card reader -Tone or pulse dialling, adjustable internally -An EPROM chip governing software functionality -Error-code diagnostics and internal lockout protections against tampering -Resistance to piezoelectric fraud attempts -Maximum five-coin capacity, with acceptance of 10c, 20c, 50c, and $1 coins The CT3c was widely used throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, especially in “Heritage” booths where the same transformer powered both the phone and fluorescent lighting. Though technologically advanced for its time, the CT3c would eventually be phased out in favour of more compact and purely digital units. |
