| Further notes |
| The KS-19206 is an indoor curved-door telephone booth, officially designated in Bell System Practices, Section 508-202-100, Issue 1, dated September 1971. The design features a single curved door that rolls into a recess on the left side of the booth Dimensions listed in the Bill of Materials document (Section 508-115-100, Issue 2, October 1965) are 33 inches wide and 83-1/8 inches tall, indicating the booth was already standardized by the mid-1960s The 2C-type coin telephone set was commonly installed in the KS-19206 booth, alongside other models like the KS-19340 wood booth, KS-19442 deluxe glass booth, KS-19426 walk-up drive-up mounting, and KS-20194 wedge shelf For ventilation and lighting, the List 1 unit of the KS-19207 Light and Blower Unit was specified for use in the KS-19206 (as well as in KS-19340 and KS-19442 booths). This component includes a light fixture plate among other elements. .According to specification documents covering such light/blower units, these typically measure approximately 21-3/4 × 16-1/2 × 4-1/2 inches when equipped with two lamps and a blower. The KS-19206 curved-door indoor booth—like the KS-16797 four-panel booth—was manufactured for Western Electric under contract, rather than being built directly by Western Electric. 🔹 Evidence from Bell System documents and surviving examples shows that: The Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa) was the primary fabricator, just as they were for the KS-16797 universal booth. The booth carried Western Electric / Bell System identification plates, because all equipment deployed in the Bell System network was standardized and distributed through Western Electric. The light and blower assemblies (KS-19207) and accessories were typically subcontracted to other specialist firms, but the booth body itself (KS-19206) came from Alcoa’s New Kensington, PA plant. |
