Development of the TELSTRA ALCATEL CLUB PHONE

These phones are associated with Alcatel as the manufacturer and Telstra as the operator or commissioning entity.
Alcatel (a major global telecommunications equipment maker through much of the 20th century) produced a range of payphone and public telephone hardware that could be adapted for coin, card or controlled-access operation. They have not traditionally supplied many payphones to Australia.
From a design point of view, these are strangely similar to the widely deployed Amper Telstra Smart Payphone (MPP X1)
These phones were commissioned and supplied by Telstra before the wide deployment of the Bluephone (to clubs, etc).
