Operating from industrial facilities in Buford, in the Atlanta metropolitan region, Nix & Miller specialised in the fabrication of aluminium and steel pedestals, mounting brackets, and protective housings designed to support payphones in outdoor and semi-public environments. Their products were widely used by regional operating companies within the Bell System and later by independent telephone service providers after the 1984 breakup of AT&T. Among their best-known products were freestanding pedestal mounts, engineered to secure payphones in locations where wall mounting was impractical, such as petrol stations, roadside rest stops, shopping centres, and transport terminals. The company’s designs emphasised corrosion-resistant metals, tamper-resistant fixings, and simple modular construction that allowed rapid installation and maintenance. Through the 1980s and 1990s Nix & Miller became a recognised supplier within the specialised niche of public telephone infrastructure.
