The Western Electric 196G is a three-slot, ten-cent, central-office-controlled payphone from the mid-20th century Bell System era. It features cast-steel construction, electro-mechanical coin control, standard Bell locking hardware, and handset operation. The 196G represents a later refinement of earlier 190-series prepay paystations prior to single-slot standardization.
