L. M. Ericsson Wall Magneto
This magnificent L. M. Ericsson coin-operated wall telephone dates from the company’s golden age around the turn of the twentieth century. Based on Ericsson’s ornate magneto wall telephones, it incorporated a sophisticated coin mechanism for public use. Versions were supplied internationally, including to Russia, where Ericsson established a major presence and factory in St Petersburg. The Russian version accepted 10- or 15-kopeck coins and even provided for rejected or refunded coins. Combining elaborate timber cabinetry, magneto telephone and coin collection equipment, surviving examples are exceptionally rare and are now highly sought after by collectors, representing some of the most impressive early Ericsson payphones.
