The Intracom INT-200 was a Greek electronic cardphone produced for OTE during the 1990s and early 2000s. Apparently derived from the Danish GNT-807, it accepted prepaid chip cards and featured an LCD with menu buttons. Line-powered and remotely monitored, it was installed across Greece and also supplied to Telekom Srbija.

Intracom INT 200 payphones — Southern and Eastern Europe, c.1990s

The Intracom INT 200 was an electronic cardphone manufactured in Greece for OTE, the national telecommunications operator, during the 1990s and early 2000s. Its design appears to have been derived from the Danish GNT-807 platform, subsequently associated with Ascom Nordic. A technical reference describes an Intracom modification of the GNT-807, although a formal licensing agreement has not yet been located.

The INT 200 accepted prepaid telephone cards using several chip technologies, including Eurochip I and II, T2G, EEPROM and EPROM formats. It was powered directly through the telephone line, eliminating the need for a local electrical supply or battery. Designed for indoor and outdoor public locations, the telephone incorporated vandal-resistant and anti-fraud construction, flexible charging arrangements, and electronic white and black lists for validating cards.

Its distinctive features included a large liquid-crystal display, eight menu-selection buttons, a conventional numeric keypad, multilingual operating instructions and a card reader positioned beneath the keypad. OTE versions were finished in blue and installed in the company’s familiar yellow street kiosks, as well as airports and other public buildings. Units could be monitored, maintained and updated remotely through Intracom’s Cardphone Supervision and Maintenance System. It represents an important Greek adaptation of established Danish public-telephone technology.

Intracom supplied telecommunications equipment extensively across Southern and Eastern Europe, particularly the Balkans. Its principal regional markets included Greece, Serbia, Albania, Bulgaria, Romania, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Moldova, Armenia and Russia.

Intracom became an important telecommunications supplier throughout Southern and Eastern Europe, particularly in Greece and the Balkans. Its INT 200 cardphone was developed for OTE and was also exported, with a documented cardphone system supplied to Telekom Srbija. Further installations in the region are possible, although a complete list has not been located.
