OTE Card-operated payphone

This Greek card-operated payphone was manufactured by INTRACOM for OTE during the 1990s. Designed for use with OTE prepaid telephone cards, it features a digital display, push-button keypad and illustrated operating instructions on its stainless-steel mounting plate. Its dark blue moulded casing, robust handset and restrained styling reflect the functional design of late twentieth-century public telecommunications equipment. The prominent Greek warning label provided important instructions concerning the telephone card and completion of the call. Compact and durable, the unit was suitable for public locations such as stations, hospitals and government buildings. This example is preserved in the OTE Group Telecommunications Museum collection.
