The Teleconcept Phone Box

The Phone Box was a Tele-Concept branded private payphone sold in Britain by October 1989. Designed for supervised indoor use, it accepted 10p, 50p and £1 coins. Callers dialled using the handset’s keypad, then inserted payment when the call was answered. Owners could adjust charges, while synthesised speech assisted programming and provided instructions. The locked plastic enclosure housed the coin mechanism and collection compartment. Its Tele-Concept 100 handset was marked “Made in Korea”. Similarities suggest a possible relationship with Sweden’s Myntonett, supplied by Televerket around 1991, although a shared manufacturer or licensing arrangement has not yet been established through documentary evidence.
