Development of the Schlumberger Access 110 CARD Phone in Indonesia
The Schlumberger Publiphone Access 110 was a French chip-card payphone design used in Europe and also shown in Indonesian Telkom advertising. The Indonesian example featured a blue front panel, a digital display, a metal keypad and a black handset, mounted within a rounded blue hood. Although familiar across Europe around 2001, its prevalence in Indonesia remains uncertain.
Indonesia introduced chip-card public telephone services in July 1996, supplementing existing coin-operated and magnetic-card systems. By August 1997, approximately 10,000 chip-card terminals had been installed in Jakarta and across Java. These figures cover the entire chip-card programme, rather than Schlumberger equipment specifically. Telkom provided the network, while PT Multisaka Mitra supplied terminals and PT Telekomindo marketed and issued cards. mpn.komdigi.go.id
The advertisement encouraged customers to “Always use CHIP public telephone cards—making communication more enjoyable!” Its accompanying text promoted the cards as an advanced technology already used overseas, emphasising their attractive appearance, resistance to bending and magnetic fields, and more accurate deduction of call credit.
A footnote warned that these cards worked only in chip-card public telephones. The advertisement therefore documents the PF16’s promotion in Indonesia, but does not establish installation numbers, local manufacture, or whether Schlumberger was the principal supplier within Telkom’s wider chip-card telephone programme.
Above- interesting version, am not sure of model info.
