British General Post Office AB from Cyprus
This British General Post Office AB coin collector was adapted for use in Cyprus during the 1960s. Its coin plate accepted 5- and 50-mil coins, denominations of the Cyprus pound. The unit worked alongside a separate telephone: after the call was answered, the caller pressed button A to deposit the coins and connect the conversation, or button B to return them if the call failed. AB mechanisms were widely installed in British telephone boxes from the 1930s until the 1970s and were exported across the British sphere. This surviving example belongs to the OTE Group Telecommunications Museum collection in Greece.
